Where is that information coming from? That's vague, has the actual legislation been completed and published?

EDIT: spoke too soon. Apparently that is Senator Feinstein's summary of her own ban that she has come up with, from what I gather.

Why can't they figure out how to have a background check system that actually works, then let the law abiding citizens have what ever guns they want. Heck, in NC you need a purchase permit for pistols, just make it so you need one to buy any gun.
I don't understand how none of the politians or media realize that if you take guns away from the people that follow the rules, you just end up with a bunch of crimianls that have guns and those criminals know that no one else with be shooting back. The people are fucking idiots. I'd like to see the people when there house is invaded or robbed at gun point. They'll be praying for a gun or a conscerned CCW holder then.

Everyone should take the time and join the NRA. You may not agree with everything, but they are our biggest advocate for keeping our guns. If every gun owner coughed up the $25 - $35 a year to join we would have some serious power behind us.

Would you like one of my tin foil hats?

I have extras.

Actually I do see black helicopters almost every day as they fly from DC to Mt. Weather (5 miles from my house) on a regular basis. I just find it somewhat amusing when I hear about the make believe ones people like to create in their little heads. Some folks need to be paranoid about something all the time to be "vigilant". I call that being a whack-o. Those people need to pop a few pills and chill the fuck out.

Eh but let the NRA and fanatics whip everyone up into a frenzy to believe Obama is going to knock on your door and take your guns.

Run to your nearest Wal-Mart and load up on ammo and Realtree! Run, run, run little bobble heads.

Garrett, did you happen to click on the link in the first post? The source of the info for the legislation is directly on Senator Feinstein's website. It's not on some paranoid website. She wants to create a national registry for anyone who owns a rifle or handgun that has the ability to accept a mag with ten or more rounds. Make fun of it all you want, but I believe it's reasonable to think there's something wrong with a piece of legislation to track people who exercise their second amendment rights.

Yes I understand she wrote it and it's on her website. So what. She's one person with her opinion on how she thinks it should "look". That's it. There is a process to this. Do you think this is what it will look like in the final stages?

Lots of folks in the Senate and Congress voice their opinions on how legislation should created, but does that mean that is how the entire body of constituents feels too?

I am not referring to her website as paranoid, but you do see the knee jerk reaction from all the people getting all giddy about all this - buying guns, ammo and underground bunkers. The same happened when Obama was elected. I am sure it will happen again when another socialist dictator like him is elected in the future.

It's good to be sure that your government is doing what's in the interest of the people and keeping them as honest as possible, but it's another to be paranoid that they are out to take away all your rights.

We could sit here and debate the wordage of the 2nd Amendment all day long and could "prove" each others opinions with it too.

My gut feel is that the senate legislation will be very similar to what Senator Feinstein put on her site. Obviously the house is a different matter. So what? If you ever had an interest in owning an AR-15, now is the time to buy one. The "assault weapons" ban was law for ten years. There's nothing irrational about running out and buying 223 ammo or an ar15 right now. The worst outcome of buying stuff right now is that the price may fall after you buy it. The downside is that it's never available again.

Garrett - I called it a realistic look because this is a real bill that will be going to a real knee-jerk congress next month. The specific wording of the bill is not finished, which usually means more is being added to it even as we speak. If you think this is conspiracy theory talk, I'm not really even sure how to respond.

Also, if you would read my post about guns from last week you would see my personal views on knee-jerk reactions regarding guns.

I also see the black helicopters. My mom and a few other people told me about them and I never knew what to think till I saw them myself. Hovering over neighborhoods, greenways, etc... Then one day I actually found myself fueling one on the line at the airport. I think I might even have pictures. Turns out they were OH-58A and UH-60 National Guard birds with DEA and ATF agents on board. They were doing routine sweeps for drug and grow operations. They used IR gear to look for hot spots on homes and wooded areas.

I find the "grandfathered weapons to be registered..." clause in this outline particularly troublesome;

Either we submit and give them our personal information, and photo ID & fingerprints. So they know everything about us & what weapons we have. And what is this "Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration"? Sounds like it may cost us as well.

Or, we say piss-off, that is none of your (the feds) business, and we become instant federal firearm law violators. Perhaps that is an intended response to this clause.

They are going to demon-ize guns so much in the media that all the politians will feel like they have to support this type of stuff. They will act like anyone that doesn't support it, is supporting terrible events like the school shooting.
