I find this is more fun as a dedicated off road toy. Does 80MPH in the sand dunes and has a full bottom skid that makes rock climbing stuff fun.

WTF, the rake on that rig is absurd. I haven't noticed that on any other pics I've see.

And Blue, you look packed into that drivers seat like a sardine, am I wrong?
It wasn't bad. Not big but not too confining. The seats are actually very comfortable. I didn't adjust the seat in this pick as it was just the display vehicle under a shade canopy for everyone to crawl over. Note that I'm not a huge guy but not small either. About 5'10" and a probably 215 lbs. I need to lose a few pounds but I'm not a total fat ass yet.

I know we are an opinionated bunch, but there isn’t much in the market I’d want to buy. Rivian R1S @100k? Defender? Bronco could hit a lower price-point but electric seats and parking brake, plus Ford!?

A couple weeks and I’ll see what the Grenadier will cost me, and what I can milk out of my RRC and other surplus vehicles.

When I bought the Tacoma I looked at a couple of Broncos. Both were 4-door in the 65-70k range. Not generly a fan of the 4-door but... I saw one today at Manards with the top and doors off. Didn't see the trim package but it had 35's ect and man did that thing look good. I was very impressed with how much better looking it was than fully dressed. It came down to them being out of my price range, a truck being more practical, and where I live going topless is a 5, maybe 6 month window at best. But if I could afford a 70k second vehicle it would be a Bronco.

I think they just lost me at the lack of an instrument cluster. My wife's Merc Benz SUV drives me nuts because you have to always be looking at the ipad in the middle...and she still has a normal instrument cluster!

I find it hard to keep a constant speed without a speedo. You're missing a variable when all it shows you is your current speed.

For me, there aren't a lot of modern cars I'd buy period.

I’m feeling older Gs are even more difficult to maintain than an older Rover. And MB parts are more expensive. Cool vehicles though.

I had a 2003 ML55 that I got rid of at 220k.

It's a very similar/same engine and transmission to what was in that era of G, and those parts of it were still humming along beautifully at the time.

The rest of it was falling apart though 😜

OEM MB is actually comparable to OEM Rover IIRC.

I feel like there's a lot more quality aftermarket options too, So it's really not more expensive (and in some cases possibly cheaper) if you want to go that route.

I do concede that, aside from main drivetrain and brakes, G parts are probably not quite as widely covered in the aftermarket realm.

They should be better engineered, and better built, no?
When working in Europe the saying was The right way; the wrong way; the German way. Compared to a Rover agree more robust with switches and others areas. Yet my past/current German vehicles also have their quirks.

The mechanic who worked on my ‘93 LWB in Tulsa around 2004 also worked on Gs. He commented to me if I thought Rangie parts were expensive you should see MB G parts.
However at least MB is supporting their older vehicles like Gs vs LR.

The Broncos on 35s do look good and they seem to be pretty capable. I don't give a damn about a convertible top on a truck, in fact that goes in the minus column. None of us live in a stupid jeep (Bronco) outdoor adventure life commercial. Then there's the cargo area....the 4-door Bronco scores an impressive 83 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down but the rear seats are on a bump-up à la the idiots at Ineos. Then there's the fact that its a Ford. A $68.5K Ford the way I would build it. That's funny.

If only they would add a towing package....that would make it even better.

I don't live in a Jeep commercial. I did, and still would I'm sure if I had the chance, like to tool around with the top off of my Jeep (if I had one). Given their sales I'd guess a lot of people feel the same way. I don't want to deal with a soft top, nor do I want to deal with removing and installing a hard top constantly. Hence the "second vehicle". There is no way I would buy one as a DD, but if I had the money to buy a thing, without really needing that thing, yes, I would score a Bronco.

It’s fun to run around topless but not off-road. Might as well shovel dust into the truck. I have a convertible sports car so the itch is already scratched.

Bill,
it is another East vs West thing.
When you get like 10 sunny days a year and all off-roading you do is between the sticks on private land, you want the top off.

We get a few more than 10 here. One year in July we might have 20 days we see rain. The next year 3. A pop-up downpour is more as likely to be a negative than dust. We deal with both.

The private land comment is very true here now, when I was younger not so much. When I had my CJ in the 80's there were thousands of acres of abandon strip mines and such to wheel on. They have all been re-mined and turned into prairies. The place in this picture does not exist now. Only in this pic and my memory.
