I bet there is plenty of airflow for the engine...
I mea that slit at the top must allow in about a cubic foot of air/ minute at
80mph.

I have yet to see a nice snorkel for a P38. I have been thinking about it for
mine for a long time, but I have to keep the EAS, so my options for fitting one are very limited

Its funny the people who always slam an orginal idea or concept seem to buy only name band stuff and have some one else install... I guess it makes them feel better for thinking inside the box....

i think the term "thinking outside the box" refers to ideas and concepts that function well and the design follows with that functionality as a progression. not to mention it being successful in the end. i think the above falls short of each of those.
progress is a succession of failures i realize. sort of like the AMC Pacer or my ex Jen.

some things are left inside the box.

Inside or outside the box....that thing belongs in my basement running cooled or heated air to other portions of my house. Sorry. Painting it black didn't help much either!

In the ad to sell, he states he also has a roofrack he built for the truck.
I'd like to see how that turned out--could be redeeming (if I'm in an optimistic mood).

It's one thing to be creative, it's another thing to forego considering materials and fit/finish over functionality all together!

cmon man, theres a big difference between thinking outside the box and strapping industrial HVAC componets to your truck. it could be a K5 Blazer instead of a P38 and it would still look absolutely ridiculous.

With logic like that, I guess if I was the first one to put industrial aluminum decking on the hood and wings of my 90 I would be a total retard?

I?m not saying all who create or modify make a masterpieces, most look like a cut to suit beat to fit paint to hide endeavors. What the intent was people who generally criticize everything in negative manor seem to never make anything there own and pay to have someone else do it fix or build it for them?

This used to be a good resource for DIY but now most of the posts just trash talks everything? Lots of thinking out side the box used to happen here before the various vendors started making it easy on the masses...

I'll be the first to admit that I'm creative when it comes to some things in life but I would never try to fab something for my truck. I DO think it's better for me to go with the talent and fabrication of others, if only due to my lack of tools to build and skills to design. I could NEVER, in a million years, have fabbed the backpack rack I bought from Kyle. Drawn a plan maybe, but never actually created and had it built.

So I'm happy that other people try it out....but I'd prefer to see something like Greg Davis's rear bumper trials where he considered all the aspects and continued to work the product's evolution into something functional, reasonable in design and more fitting for the lines of the vehicle.

exactly.. i have yet to see a home made snorkel that trumps the function and aesthetic design of an over the counter snorkel. some stuff is just better left to the manufacturers.

Where's Mr. RoverGrenade?

Inform Mr. Snorkel Maker that TUBE IS STRONGER THAN BOX and FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION.

Long live the sewer pipe snorkel.

And while I dont like it...

Really? Your post, 23, seems to say otherwise:

"I actually like it. Great concept. Its hard to come by stuff made for P38s, thats why we make our own. I was thinking about a snorkle for a while now. I also think it will look better powder coated and with the rivits ground down."

Sorry about the stale link.

Go ahead someone give me the Carter Simcoe special...

It was kind of fun to revisit that monstrosity and the related threads, actually.

I even got back into the "P38 Christening" thread/entertainment for a little while!!
