I'm a liberal, and I don't believe global warming is our fault. And don't get me started on illegal immigration. Maybe not so liberal as I used to be...
Of course, one of the organizers of the expedition pleads that "one of the things we see with global warming is unpredictability." And I'm seeing Global Warming being more and more often called "Global Climate Change." So warming can mean both warming and cooling! Hooray, they can't lose!
It's the apparently defectively-designed suspension that worries me about these trucks. See http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/18/loud-land-rovers-land-company-in-class-action-lawsuit/
Exactly what a BMW X5, Cadillac Escalade, Lexus RX330, or Infiniti FX fan would want. That's Land Rover's idea here - a very fast highway cruiser with some (never to be used) offroad talent that'll make you look like a playa.
So they're going to build the FJ Cruiser. Excellent - I've had my eye on that one since the concept appeared. And also hoping it would lose the "design-y" look before it went into production. If they won't give us Defenders, this might work instead.
For most people in your position, their Golfs turn into minivans.
A couple I know just had their first baby last weekend. I was best man at their wedding, so I feel obliged to make sure they don't buy a Caravan or something.
They do seem to be looking more often to see if you actually have your chains with you. Well actually, to see if you have A Box That Looks Like It Has Chains In It...
I second the recommendation to use the diamond-pattern type of chains. Better traction, more stable, and easier to install.
