This is my brother in law and sister's truck.
It's a nice truck that needs a little work. Lots of potential and I love that it's a manual transmission.
Hopefully someone here will take the challenge and fix her up. I would buy her but have my own project at the moment ;-)

I've heard good things about their soundproofing.
A little pricey but it's another option
Here's a link to a "Land Cruiser Newbie" guide from Slee Offroad.
Might help you narrow down a year. Don't rule out Lexus 470s also.

Prices on D90s have gone down due to the economy and the importing of 84-85 from across the pond. Highly unlikely Land Rover will be coming out with a new defender any time soon. If it does, it will be nothing like the original.
Too bad!
looked perfect. Had studded tires and more "newer" parts.
Wheel what you bring!
I saw also a older range rover with a plow for dirt cheap also on craigs

Keep your DII. You can find a decent D90 for much less than they were going for 2 yrs ago. My wife and I traded our DII for our LR3 and looking back I should of kept the DII and build it into a nice expo rig. I also have a D90 but it would never be a DD for a number of different reasons. If you...
You may want to try LRX

Britrover is in Pompano Beach FL. Not sure if that's close to you in Florida
pricey but they have a couple of them there to look at

I would really narrow down your search to exactly what you are looking...
I run Toyo MTs (On my Toyota FJC). They are a great tire on and off road.
The only drawbacks in my opinion are they are pretty heavy
and recommended psi is much more than the KM2s. It takes
me alot longer to air up and air down.
When my BFG ATs wear out on my D90 I will probably get Toyo MTs.
