I gotta tell Steve T. about that; couldn't budge that RoverTym side bar w/ the little loader.............that's a pretty strong bumper, not sure how I bent it in the first place!!

I think we're going to see alot more people switching back to steel cable....and if you think that synthetic cable doesn't fly when it snaps, you're wrong! Ask around......it just doesn't fly with as much energy but it doesn't just fall limp to the ground when it breaks..

Damn! I can't believe I got busted on my spelling from the guy that can't get "brake/break" straight.

As far as the winch cable goes, you make some good points. I guess I just like the bling. Although there has to be something about it since every single person in Moab uses it. Plus I dropped about 45lbs from the front of my truck since going to the amsteel. 150' of 3/8 steel is pretty friggin heavy. You are right about it holding some kinetic energy though. Everything will, but it will hold MUCH less than steel so it will not come all the way back. And if it does break somewhere, I know that I can weave it back together easily. As far as it binding up and not freespooling, I have yet to experience that. I've only done short pulls in Moab, but didn't have any problems with freespooling. I've only used it out here one time and that was another short pull on rocks. Believe me, I'd like to get my truck buried right now but I'm stuck being bored out of my mind for about 7 more weeks.

Definite advantage of synthetic.

I just figure I can pick up a very cheap or free steel cable every few years with all the people going to synth!!

Even though I still wear gloves, not getting sliced on a steel cable as it ages is a nice benefit. No kinks, either.
I think if you properly use a synth rope, it'll last a long time. Doesn't B.Burke claim to be using the same Amsteel rope on his for 6 years or something?

Where does BB wheel that truck? From what I have seen, not done, over on the West coast you have short pulls to bump you over rocks and such. On the East Coast, it seems we have very long pulls, sometimes, and thats what kinks the rope in the drum. It gets wound in there so tight, it won't spool out. So, you have got to either hook up another winch to pull it out, or hook one end to a tree and pull it out....I've also seen one frozen in place, that sucked!

I'm not saying the stuff is bad at all, either. Just each has their own pros and cons...

Wheres my beer......

I just throw mine over the roof, and wrap it around the spare tire....Works good. I don't give a fuck about scratching the power coat ;)

I haven't had the synth stuff bind up on the drum- but I've had that happen several times with steel. Cause permanent kinks and was quite annoying.

Yea, but you used your cable, well, about every trip. Your cable was so wore out, it was like rope :D

Just messing with you....I have seen stuck cable too, but it was able to be freed up..The rope was nasty stuck...Were you on that trail at MAR when those guys from NY were messing with the stuff? Nightmare!

Yea, and it stinks on the inside too! But, thats what the truck is for, in my case. The other D1 is super clean....
