My 14-year-old daughter's lunch:
Turkey & swiss, lettuce, tomato on whole wheat bread
apple (organic)
bag of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes & raspberries (organic, of course)
pretzels
craisins
oatmeal cream pie (mmm! sugar!)
bottle of water

i would be ALL up in someone's shit for even LOOKING at my daughter's lunch.

On the news 2 nights ago:
cops confiscate cell phones from high school students to "investigate sexting incident".

why the fuck is "sexting" a crime?
stupid? yep
foolish? yep
criminal? you've GOT to be fucking kidding me

Here's another great story about the government looking out for all of us:

http://campaign2012.washingtonexami...cbp-stops-thousands-unsafe-hair-dryers/376786

DHS (Department of Homeland Security): 'CBP (US Customs and Border Protection) Stops Thousands of Unsafe Hair Dryers'

So DHS can keep out the unsafe hair dryers but not the illegal immigrants? Perfect.

They do a great job of intercepting shipments of bearings as well.

Yesterday, I had to pay a tax bill. I tried to pay it in cash-as the letter I received told me I had to-but the Fort Wayne IRS office wouldn't accept cash. WTF? The only job of the IRS is to collect taxes yet one cannot do so in person at the Fort Wayne office.

The first person I spoke with apparently lied through her teeth to me about how I could pay my taxes.

I ended up spending five hours and 11 minutes dealing with the IRS yesterday and STILL do not have confirmation of my having paid my taxes and the lien being released, in spite of my following their instructions with a high degree of specificity.

The problem with all of this is having the government (state or federal, doesn't really matter which) interacting directly with the children without the parents' oversight. Now, I know that it's not as if some big bad state agent roughed up the 4 year old and grabbed her Hello Kitty lunchbox to have a look-see, but at some point this little girl was directed to eat the state mcnuggets instead of the lunch her mommy packed for her (or eat the damn nuggets in addition too). What do all 4 year olds always ask? Why? I wonder what they told her?

And confiscating high schooler's cell phones? Absurd, what a bullshit intrusion on their privacy and private property. I can't stand cell phones and all the bullshit kids do with them but guess what, they are legal.

It's a fine line. Nude pics sent between students may be OK, depending the interpretation of the law. Nude pics redistributed to other students or adults can be considered Child Porn, which is probably what they're trying to prevent.
I'd be pissed at the school or police for taking the phone, but even more pissed at my daughter if she was sending pics of herself to others.

BTW, the little one at my house took a blueberry muffin, a Capri Sun and PBJ sandwich to school the other day. That's what she wanted to eat.

If it's minors, they technically they're producing and distributing child pornography electronically.

I support the notion of having guidelines that teachers enforce in the spirit of the law, and depending on the kid in question, with communication with the parent. There's gotta be an option for kids who get sent to school with yesterday's McDonalds in a paper sack or a twinkie and a coke.

While we're on the subject of what our kids eat, I sent my 4 year old to school this morning with an almond butter and jelly sandwich (no PB anymore, too many kids with allergies), an organic apple, string cheese, raw broccoli (by his own request), and chocolate milk as a treat. His school has some rules regarding what I can send to school with him. No candy, no peanut products. He's brought such things as pizza and beef jerky along with the standard carrots, goldfish, cucumbers, blackberries, apples, and oranges. No complaints.

Another thing not addressed in the article, what if the parents are vegetarian or have religious based dietary restrictions? Or the kid is lactose intolerant or some other allergy? I wonder if the "lunch inspectors" take all that in to consideration

A local radio station was discussing this issue the other day and a parent called in. He had received a letter stating that he has to send his kid with a half-pint of milk in his lunch. He told them that his kid hates milk and will refuse to drink it. They responded that that's OK, they'll pour it out for him and give him some juice...Just send him with the milk from now on.

And regarding the kids who's moron parents send them in with a twinkie and a coke or leftover McDonald's, that's a damn shame. The parents should be disciplined.

Teachers should be able to take away a kids lunch if it's something like that and give them a cafeteria meal, AND the parents should be disciplined. I guess what I'm saying is guidelines and local authority (teachers) is a good balance here. When you have hard and fast regulations, you end up with idiocy and waste like the milk thing you mentioned. Good administration and communication between parents and teachers will ensure that teachers do not overstep their boundaries and take away perfectly healthy lunches.

Fuck that! If I had kids and a teacher told me what I was going to feed that child, there would be a problem.

But if you were a moron and sent your kid with a twinkie and a coke then you would be, by definition, a moron parent and you wouldn't give a shit what they did with your kid in school. For you, the moron parent, school = free daycare.

Bingo. ...and as long as you don't do something moronic like sending your kid to school with a twinkie and a coke, you're not going to have any trouble with teachers being given some light authority (NOT the state or the federal government).

It's not the role of the school teacher to tell anyone what their kid should, or should not, eat. Period.

It IS a teacher's job to protect and ensure the welfare of their students, especially if there's evidence of abuse. ...sending kids to school with a twinkie and a coke or no lunch at all is borderline abuse and teachers should be able to do something about it.

Schools have a couple simple responsibilities: educating my children and making sure that they don't come to physical harm. They have absolutely no fucking say whether I feed my kid twinkies or organic free range whatever. The fact that anyone would gladly welcome this kind of government intrusion is hard for me to fathom.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Today, I've had 3 cups of coffee, a small ham biscuit, and a 16oz Red Bull. That's my choice. No one should tell me it's unhealthy. No one should tell me what to eat.

Likewise, no one should tell me what to feed my kids. Ever! It is not the role of government to do this.

Fuck, look at Obama's FDA Senior adviser, Michael Taylor!! And the Obama administration is going to tell ME what to feed MY KIDS?! WTF! Seriously, WTF!?

I don't care if you like FOX news or Bill O'Reilly, but he hit it on the head here.

Right there. That's when shit went south. If I fucked up in school, swats in the principle's office or hallway, then dad's belt when I got home. None of this time out pussy shit.

Back to topic, agree, big brother needs to worry less whats in a kids lunch box, and worry more about the deep fucking hole that it's in.
