Sure, but does Russia, for example, exert foreign policy decisions differently if Palin is suddenly thrust (insert joke here) into office? Hoping her inexperience could be exploited? Presence on an international stage is important ...

Well, maybe she should go make a speech in Berlin and have the news cover her visiting Europe and Africa like they did Obama and then she'll instantly have "international experience" like Obama does now, right?

Not really an answer ... but we'll see how it plays out. Certainly a novel choice and will make the campaign very interesting ..

All true, and all good things. But, do they qualify a person for the presidency in the event that McCain keels over?

And Biden? Biden is older than her, been inside the beltway for a while, has the foreign policy corner... but nothing else on her.

Besides, isn't Obama always bragging about the exact type of inexperience Sarah has? Outside of the beltway, a reformer, young, etc... So, the experience argument is over.

Actually, I would be more scared to piss her off than any of the other candidates, including McCain! She is a gun toting hunter from Alaska that is protecting her children and is possibly hormonal. And, she has a history of not taking any shit! That is the attitude we need back in this Country.

She may be a MILF but she seems like another right wing religious nut. Bad move IMO.

Creationism is religion and has no place in public schools. If people want to hear about Genesis then they can go to church.

I've had it with religion in politics. Abortion, gay marriage etc.

Exactly, you can learn that shit in Sunday school. Science class is for science.

And I'd like to see Michael Fucking Moore ask Sarah Palin if she would be willing to enlist her own children to fight for our country in Iraq.

Too late Michael, her son is already going and they are PROUD of it.

I thought McCain would pick somebody like Tom Ridge who is as exciting as watching paint dry.

This lady does 2 things: energize the conservative base and also appeal to the middle of the road voter in the midwest battleground states like Ohio.

After seeing this in the news, I suggest you start planning to see Obama win.

Did you think the "news" would somehow alter their already lopsided favoritism in this race after this announcement?

I was afraid of that too. This was a good, clever choice on his part. I was actually surprised that Obama chose a ho-hum dud like Biden. I thought for sure he'd wow everyone with an outta sight running mate like Barbara Streisand or Gary Coleman. You know....really shake things up and "change" Washington. Instead he chose a guy who's been on the inside nearly longer that out, thereby giving his whole campaign a painfull case of blue balls. I hope Biden goes off on his introspective tangents during the debates. At least that would be interesting.

Biden was chosen as Obama's attack dog to stick on McCain. His whole first speech was a negative attack on McCain. Sarah Palin discussed herself and the issues, not once making a negative attack on Obama. I'm sure that won't last, but....

Sounds like someone is a little scared to me...

EDIT: Did you really have a clue who Biden was before he was picked? I sure as hell didn't.

If the Dems had nominated the standard whitebread male candidate rather than Obama or Hillary, would she have been McCain's choice?

I don't know, but it seems unlikely. This feels like a reactionary, defensive decision ...

That was the first question that came to my mind as well. Is she only here to be played against the race card?

Or is she genuinely the best candidate for the job? I know little about her.

It's honestly getting ridiculous and the message is obvious from both sides. Even more apparent from the Right with this move. They should just come right out and say it. "We think America is dumb."

I certainly hope I am wrong, but I can't seem to answer one simple question about either party - Why should I vote for you?

no chance...I have to say I have 100% confidence in her allready.

when it comes right down to what the job is I have no problem with someone that really represents the common man.

NPR allready is calling her husband a "oil man"...truth is he works in the oil fields.

I think this is like a good old movie where a person in good faith goes to washington to make a difference. Our founding fathers thought that way...Go do what needs to be done and then go back and live your life. I think that this might be major turning point in our country and I feel great being able to see it happen.

I have said for years that if we elect more women our world would be a more moderate place. I am really happy that that option is now out there.

Obama is the one that "screwed the pooch" here, he missed the chance at keeping all the Hillery supporters by naming Hillery as his running mate. this will turn that resentment into momentum. I think Bill and Hillery know this and they did their job and will sit back and wait for 2012.

Nope, I like her, for a lot of reasons. I think you missed my first post, you should go back and look.

Obama is toast.

Let's look at Palin through the liberal prism:

Sarah Palin, A Fresh Face For The GOP
by Pam Fessler
NPR

Complements McCain's Maverick image - not tied to either party - "Sarah Palin is no stranger to the "maverick" label often assigned to Sen. John McCain"

Ethics - " first female governor has pushed for ethics investigations of fellow Republicans in her state"

Big Oil - "bucked the powerful oil industry on a major natural gas pipeline project."

Evengelicals - "anti-abortion" / pro-life

2nd ammendment - "pro-gun", lifetime NRA member, endorsed by NRA

Budget - "fiscal conservative", elected "running against tax increases", "One of her first acts as governor was to kill the now infamous "bridge to nowhere" pork-barrel spending project"

Experience - "co-owner of a commercial fishing operation", "owned an outdoor recreational equipment company", "chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.", "television sports reporter"

Relate to voters - "She likes to hunt, ice fish, ride snowmobiles and eat moose burgers."

and

Palin a huge hit at the Clinton Forum

and

Sarah Palin thread on P.U.M.A.

"Watching MSNBC live (at work, the only network I can watch on my computer) of the Ohio rally... How exciting this is!!

I was just telling my boss (who is a Republican) that I couldn't believe I was going to be voting for the Republican ticket, but he just agreed that Obama has not defined what 'change' he promises and is inexperienced.

He told me that he was a community organizer too and I said, "Hey, you're ready to be President! Who knew?!"

There are already articles about how Biden may have a medical issue and be replaced by . . . . .

Bottom line - McCain Shakes Things Up with Palin Pick
