Manager of my older brothers small wrecking yard. Never work for your family. It really sucks.

Retired EH&S engineer where I really did have to scrape the grit separators for wastewater treatment plants-and that was the good part of the job that smelled good. Moved from field work to industrial ocmpliance at big manufacturing facilities. Finally got out of it after my boss (big-haired Amy) gave me a disciplinary layoff after I'd been doing a job she didn't understand for longer than she'd been out of high school.

Couldn't afford to pay for law school so I opened a Rover shop and now, I do my best to hang on as the business grows and becomes more like a business everyday.

Everybody keeps telling me how bad the economy is, but my business keeps growing everyday. I've hired two helpers and we are preparing to pour more concrete to add another live bay with another lift. Currently, we have four bays that are nearly always full, along with enough outside for me to regularly run afoul of the county plan commission.

Next week, my parts department should go live completely. I'm hoping to be able to compete with all but the biggest players. I'm spending enough money on the project, it had better work out!

Worked at a Harley shop in Vegas through high school as a shop boy.
graduated, then found a temp job for the USPS for a couple months before deciding I should join the USAF. While in the AF I was a F-16 crew chief for about 5 yrs then decided to cross train into firefighter and ended up doing that for about 3 yrs before getting a medical discharge.

Once I got out of the AF I found a job at the state prison and worked there for about a year as a CO. Thought I would do something better so I went to school for Lineman, once I graduated I found out what a pain in the ass it is to get a DOT medical card if your insulin dependant diabetic...so I wasn't able to get a job as a lineman. Found a a job at Micron Technology as a operator in the clean room, which ended being extremely boring so I found a job at a small telecom/data company as an installer which I'm still doing but since there's no work I'm sitting on my ass collecting unemployment looking for a new job...maybe I'll find a job that I enjoy doing that allows me to get a full 40 hrs a week.

I want to be like PT when I grow up - really - I'm always messing around on one or planning the next project vehicle! That or build houses... Office life is simply a means to pay the bills...

Same way I feel, I would much rather be doing something outside any day. Sitting at a computer all day really sucks. When I was fresh out of Highschool I worked at a golf course, the pay sucked, but I loved the job. Now the job sucks , but I love the pay....

Wow.... there's a name I haven't heard in a looooong time.

You know of EJ?? He is the brother of a close friend of mine. EJ grew up in my neighborhood and played golf at the same club. He is now a Professional Instructor working out of Oklahoma. Ive hunted with him before at their family cabin in downstate NY, and he always brings a few friends along (Recent guests: Davis Love, Scott Verplanke, Stewart Cink) They are a cool bunch of guys who are really down to earth and like to have a good time.

I think he's just a couple years older than I am. When I was a kid, I'm pretty sure he went by "Ed Pfister." I had seen him around when I lived in East Auraora and he was the talk of the town during some high-profile tournament (Junior Masters or something?) at the EA CC, and it was the big news to have a local boy in it/or win it.

Come to AK, BP will double your salary. The starting salaries for engineering students right out of school is ridiculous. Geologists must have their graduate degree, but holy shit do they like to incentivize people up here. I guess when you have billions of dollars in the bank, it's not that hard.

I'm pretty happy here. The cost of living is low and compensation is good.

PhD Chemist. I work on developing new polymers (plastics) and materials that the world hasn't seen. Made the first white light emitting polymer (pLED) for use in ultra thin displays and solid state lighting.

Yes, I've heard: One word, plastics.

Unfortunately, grad school was full of fat ugly chicks (except my wife, who wasn't a chemistry geek), and no Mrs. Robinson.

Second profession: high end beer drinker on the weekends. Dart thrower when a dart board makes itself available
