    Brake Q

My 98 Disco's (211k) brakes perform and feel like manual brakes.:banghead: I took the servo check valve out and it tested fine (air in 1 direction only, towards servo). With the air line disconnected, the brakes were actually worse (even more foot pressure needed to provide even worse/minimal...

    94 Disco

This dialogue is too funny to turn away from. Justinhaaga, Judging by your rig (which also appears to be for sale at a steep loss), you know your way around a Rover. Although you try and bad mouth the rig, its price, its mods, and its year, you are obviously smitten with it, as well you...

    94 Disco

Yes, you are. The guy is not dumb either, and he is not going to let you steal that beautiful rig for less than its worth. If a thing is worth what another will pay for it, that thing is worth way more than 3k. I would be surprised if he could not find a LR enthusiast who is not dumb, but...

bringing a D1 back to life

If it has sat for a while, I like to disable the ignition or fuel system and crank it to ensure oil is everywhere it should be, like in the lifters, then start it. I think an oil change and you should be good to go. Mabe check basic stuff like brake pads, tire pressure and fluids. Shouldn't...

1996 Disco 5- Speed built *feeler*

Why would you ever try to sell here? This site is great for info, etc., but is famous for low-ballers and bad-mouthers. Nice truck. Keep it, even if you don't use it much.

    Quick Towing Question

If it is anything like a disco, put t-case in neutral, tranny in park, and key in unlocked position. I pulled my 98 across the country on a dolly with my 96 with this procedure, and had zero issues. The guy on this board who told me this method has pulled his disco behind his rv for years.

    Yarrgg, freakin domestic lovin rednecks!!

lmao I was right there today, silently wishing I had a turbo diesel in my 98 disco. It has 206k now, and I am lucky if I can pull it in 3rd at 60 mph. I'd like to see one of those towing machines try left hand canyon, etc. That would be funny. I think trucks and cars are like tools. You...

    Yarrgg, freakin domestic lovin rednecks!!

Move to Denver or Boulder, CO, every other vehicle is a Disco or RR, with lots of Defenders and Series trucks around too. My two discos are stock, but there are lots with tasteful mods.

    creeky front end

Sounds like a worn bushing or tie rod end. Have someone shake the vehicle back and forth, and/or try to manually turn the steering wheel whilst you are under the vehicle (not on a jack or jackstands, on all 4 wheels and on the ground). You should be able to isolate the noise/issue that way...

    Petrol to Diesel

That is more than I can afford to play with, on top of the vehicle price to begin with. Back to the proverbial drawing board. I may just snag the defender, but will have to wait to see if a few things come together first. Thanks for your help.

96 Disco 1 SE7 Great DD and Weekend Rig! $6500

I may be interested in a trade, not a p38 though, my 100% stock (still has 5 xd michellins) 96 SD with 85k, white on tan cloth, no sunroofs. Power steering leaks a bit, but gets 18 mpg highway. pm if interested.

It is the 2.25 na, although it has a tuned head on it. The owner says it can cruise at 60-65, but that's it.

    Petrol to Diesel

Very good info, thanks. The reason I ask is that I would like a diesel 110 defender/SIII 109 type to add to the collection, and have found a couple of relatively reasonable options, but one is petrol and one a diesel. The diesel is a SIII coverted to a defender look, and the other is an...

    Petrol to Diesel

What's the bottom line? Can it be done for a few grand? 1984 defender (imported RHD, prob. grey market) with 2.25 and 5 speed. The price is right, but I would prefer a diesel.

Towing a 4,000lb folding trailer at high elevation

Yeah, but not nearly as much as with carberation. With efi and ecm, the computer, with the help of the map sensor, can adjust the air/fuel ratio to achieve the ideal 14.7/1 ratio, whereas with a carburator, the ratio is set by the jets and your altitude at that time and is not adjustable...

Towing a 4,000lb folding trailer at high elevation

It's my understanding that vehicles with electronic control modules regulating the air-fuel ratio are not effected by altitude, unlike carberated motors, which are dogs at elevation if not jetted for it. My carberated 89 yj sucks at 7k plus. I have yet to have the pleasure of taking either of...
