    A-Frame Ball Joint

I read somewhere that a new ball joint should be very stiff and you should not be able to hold the base and move the shaft with your hands. I bought one a few years back and yes I can rotate the shaft, not easily however, but certainly not overly tight. This is not the adjustable joint, but the...

Nirvana = 'a dry ECU' - got clever ideas?

Help please. I have a 97 Discovery. I am looking for some creative approaches to keep your ECU dry. I have heard they need to stay vented due to the heat. I pulled out my windshield washer reservoir to make room for your creative ideas.

Stripped Nuts & Bolts - The Killer Tool

How much time have we all wasted concocting methods to remove those darn stripped nuts and bolt heads? I know I wasted a great deal of time. Recently replacing a timing belt on my daughter?s VW Jetta, I stripped a Alan-head bolt on the crankshaft pulley. :banghead: Why those German engineers...

    Rotary Coupler Q

After I replaced tie rods, my steering wheel was off past 40 or more degrees. I decided to pull the steering wheel and adjust. After getting everything back together, the stupid rotary-coupler locking-pin started clicking as I turned the wheel. I did ?centralize? the coupler before I...

    RAVE is Dead

I have relied on my old version of Acrobat 4.0 for RAVE for years. Suddenly, it no longer works. Before I spend countless and I am sure unproductive hours of research and fiddling around, does ANYONE know how to update the RAVE package to utilize the later versions of Adobe? Yea, I am a PDF...

    Apline Window Seal - WTF?

What am I missing here? My 97, pulled the alpine windows out, treated the areas that had some rust, now trying to re-install the 'orginal' seals. This is a real $#%@$. I am probably killing myself trying to use the old seals, right? Nathan sent me the wrong seals, now my truck is down until I...

    Lucas Bashing, YIKES!!!

Thanks to the Dweb thread about K&Ns that sent me to BOB is the Oil Guy ? site. His little experiment with Gear Oil shocked me!!!!! When they added some Lucas in that experiment, it did well on the initial start (climbing), but once the gears were moving faster, heat rising, the air trapped in...

Cheap Bastard Approach for Equal Add

Can?t recall the original amount of Equal I put in my BFG MTs, but above 65 she begins to vibrate due to tire balance. So, buddy of mine shipped me some more, 5 bags of 3-oz. Now my choices in this area are only ?2?. Remove tires, add original + more Equal (because you will probably loose your...

    Eating U-Joints, Hmmm?

I have a 97 Disco, 100K miles, two-inch RTE lift, stock front/rear bumpers, TTs front/rear. The problem is my chronic destruction of U-joints. Front DS, around 40K, bye-bye. Then at 85K, bye-bye. Rear DS, around 50K, bye-bye. Now at 100k, bye-bye. So, my driveline geometry with only a 2-inch...

    A hidden connection?

What electrical connection would cause this problem, IF this is the problem? Condition = Running in water, say mid-door, nice bow-wake going-on in front and NO water over the hood. Also, this is a recent problem that has surfaced, meaning never an issue in the past. Problem = sputtering...

    Moscow Disco

Downtown in Moscow on Sunday evening I watched a very rigged Disco-1 blow down the street in front of the Novotel Hotel. This Disco was riding at least 36 shoes, Green, Safari Snorkel, bead locks. When I say blow, I think he was doing about 110 KPH, and heaven forbid he had to make an...

Front Crank Pulley and Seal Q

Several years ago, I opted to have my front crank seal replaced by a local shop. During the procedure, I got a call explaining they could replace the seal, however the crank pulley was deeply grooved and the seal would fail once again in the future. The price for the pulley alone was $275. Well...

    Rotor Removal Tip

Getting that old rotor off the hub: I used two jack stands, block of wood between jack stands lying on floor, rotor resting between the two jack stands, (yes hub-side down), small block of wood ontop of hub, 5-lbs sledge hammer. Two hits, hub is out, lands on wood block below, no damage. Sweet!!
